Siena railway station is at Piazza Carlo Rosselli, north of the historic centre and beyond the city walls. The station is about 2 km from the centre. It has six passenger tracks and opened on November 25, 1935; architect Angiolo Mazzoni designed it.
The bus station is not at the railway station: it is in Piazza Gramsci/La Lizza. Keep the two locations distinct when planning an onward connection. For a broader day plan once you reach the centre, see how to plan a walk around Siena’s sights.
How do you walk from Siena railway station to the city centre?

You can walk toward the centre by taking the mechanical ascent to Antiporto di Camollia or by using a route that stays off the escalator. The ascent route passes through the Porta Siena shopping centre and connects the station with the Antiporto di Camollia area.
For the route via the ascent, Opera Duomo Siena’s directions continue left along Viale Vittorio Emanuele II, then Via Camollia and Via dei Montanini.
Those directions give a 15-minute walk from the station to the Duomo. If you prefer not to use the ascent, turn left from the station and continue along Viale Mazzini, Via Garibaldi and Via dei Montanini.
After arriving by train, Domus Il rooms for a stay in Siena give you a place to settle in.
